Guitar and Meditation
Article Tags: meditation memory learning
I saw an article on meditation and as I skimmed it to see if it's worth reading I noticed how something are similar to learning something new on guitar.

When I learn something that I want to memorize I think about the song and play it in my head as I fall asleep. This actually helps me get to sleep as I think about what my fingers are doing as I go through the music. Music itself usually keeps me awake becaue I get into it but focusing on what both hands hands are doing changes the focus and therefore is more calming. On the pieces I've done this with I do remember them much better in the long term.

With the meditation article, link below, you get some basic ideas like controlling your thoughts, patience, detachment, concentration, and intensity. Those can all describe this mental playing before sleeping strategy. If the strategy is really meditation, I'm not sure. It falls in the 'if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then...' so it makes it close enough for me.
